Mod MUN 2015 |
|
Great opportunities seldom come without us seeking them. But such a
rarity did become a reality when a team from DPS Sharjah
got the privilege of participating in the Mod MUN
held in Delhi at Modern School (Barakhamba Road) from 3rd to 5th
October,2015. This was one of the largest
MUN that was conducted in Asia with almost eight hundred participants
and eleven dynamic committees. DPS Sharjah was the only International
School that participated along with all the other Indian Schools.
Our delegation was scattered in various committees such as the General
Assembly, Security Council, Conference of Parties 21, Human Rights
Council, Economic and Social Committee, and the Commission of Narcotic
Drugs, to name a few. The team had focused and dedicated group of
students, who left no stones unturned towards preparing for the event
.This included late night researches and teaming up amongst themselves
for mock up rehearsals and simulations. |

The consistent efforts of our students crystallized
in DPS Sharjah bagging two awards, one in the
“High
Commendation” category won by the team of
Girik Kashkari and Rohan Kapoor
and the other in the “Special
Mention” category won by the team of
Saira Banu and Hafsah Areen.
Dipsite Nishant Soni, was a delegate of Brazil and he stated
point-blank, his non-defective adherence to the Kyoto Protocol, leaving
other delegates flabbergasted.
The three days of the event were days of intense activity as the
delegations used all their diplomacy and ingenious methods of reasoning
and argument to defend their country’s policies. The delegates asserted
their country’s stance on the floor of the house and were prepared to
defend them.
The committees
talked about various issues such as Ballistic Missile Proliferation, the
Eurozone Crisis, Climate Change, Legalization of Cannabis, etc which
were not only knowledge enhancers, but also gave the students an
opportunity to participate first hand in the decision making process of
such important, global questions
It is notable that the
inspiring
and motivating words from Dr. Vijay Datta, Principal of the Modern
School (Barakhamba Road), who time and again across all three days
praised and made a special mention of DPS Sharjah in all his
deliberations has added an asset to the institution. The winners
surpassed their commendable efforts by making it to the top rung from
amongst the huge number of participants
The event ended on a high note for all the participants as productive
and constructive debates seemed to be paving the way for genuine
solutions to the problems under discussion by the various committees.
The team is appreciative for giving them this exclusive opportunity to
associate themselves with this prestigious event. |
